Our summer concert will start with a new composition by Katy Lavinia Cooper, Twelve Trees, commissioned in 2024 for the 60th anniversary of the Sing for Pleasure Charity. Inspired by trees native to the British Isles, the twelve pieces about different trees delve into the history, folklore and traditional music of those lands.

This will be followed by the well-known Holberg Suite for orchestra by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg.

Ola Gjeilo, also from Norway although now living in the US, is one of the most frequently performed contemporary choral composers. His Sunrise Mass is reflective, immensely atmospheric and uplifting – a joy to listen to on a summer’s evening.
